Corfu Travel Guide - All inclusive Holidays

It might be a cliché but Corfu really does offer something for every traveller. Whether you want nothing more than to lie on the beach and turn a golden shade of brown or get your teeth stuck into centuries old history, this stunning Ionian island has it all. Corfu is just off the coast of mainland Greece and is the northernmost Ionian island.
The sandy beaches, coves and headlands rise – often quite steeply – to a hilly and mountainous hinterland dotted with villages that haven’t changed since their inception and remnants of one of the world’s greatest civilizations, the ancient Greeks. So what is there to do in Corfu island ?
Kavos is the perfect location in Corfu
Beaches: Being an island there are plenty of beaches to choose from. Aside from the main holiday resorts, there
are a dozen or so other ‘must-see’ beaches; these include Paleokastritsa, which is a small, idyllic cove and one of the island’s most prized beauty sports. One of the most beautiful and longest stretches of beach is Glyfada. It is has a few small developments such as tavernas, bars and some hotels, but nothing too loud and brash. If you are more into action on the beach, head to Chalikounas Beach. This is a huge dune that divides Lake Korrision and the Mediterranean and thanks to the strong winds and shallow waters it is a mecca for kite surfers and wind surfers.

History: Corfu Town is a jumbled up mix of histories and cultures including ancient Greek, Venetian, French and even colonial Britain. It has now been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is packed full of sights and landmarks, some of which are rather unexpected such as the very green cricket ground. There are two forts, one of which dates back as far as the 6th century, palaces, ancient Greek shrines and medieval churches

Eat and Drink: Greek food is heavenly. It is fresh, wholesome and generally very healthy.
It is all washed down with a large flagon of wine or strong spirit. Feta, olives, tomatoes, fresh fish, garlic, lemon, yoghurt, filo pastry and vine leaves are dominant ingredients of the Greek diet. Local specialities include lobster, baby squid better known as calamari and octopus. Lamb and meaty stews as well as one of the most famous Greek dishes, moussaka, are your meat alternatives. Thomas Cook is a leader in all-inclusive holidays to Corfu and fitting into the cliché, it has accommodation options to suit pretty much every holidaymaker
